A tidemark is a line that indicates the levels of the tide, both high and low. This blog is a catalog of indicators or tidemarks. Focusing specifically on the environment, labor, and diversity, it is a newsreel of old and new ideas and a watering hole for folks with a thirst for change.
Tidemarks also serves as a library of resources and events, primarily featuring the New York City metropolitan area, and focusing on Food, Water, Energy, Materials, Labor and Innovation.
Tidemarks is an offshoot from an Environmental Literacy course offered to women in an NYC pre-apprenticeship program, preparing women for jobs in the building and construction trades. Beginning with understanding the responsibility of personal consumer habits, students expand their understanding of the concept of Environmental Impact to the larger agenda of building and construction. Topics include environmental justice, health impacts and the effects of the industry on ecosystems.
